GEOTRAN Portable / Light Falling Weight Deflectometer are used to determine soil bearing capacity and compaction quality of un-bound materials quickly. It enables the measurement of dynamic deformation modulus (Evd value) for soils, stone or other non-cohesive material - information vital to the construction of buildings, railways and pavements. And, it provides a time and cost saving alternative to expensive static plate loading tests. The unit was specifically designed for Measuring Deflections using a Portable Impulse Plate Load Test Device. It is already being extensively used in many industry sectors including, road construction, railway engineering and earthworks, for quality protection in canal construction and utility trenches, and in the examination of roadbeds and foundation fillings.
LWD output usage:
- Road and railway construction,
- Runway,
- Earthworks,
- Embankments,
- Granular layers,
- Fill up of trenches,
- Mining haul roads,
- Soil stabilization,
- Backfilling of pillars,
- Dump grounds,
- Continuous Compaction Control.
Light Weight Deflectometer
Light Weight Deflectometer
- Quick and easy to use one man operation,
- GEOTRAN LWD makes measurement easily at any site,
- GEOTRAN LWD is ideal for Quality Assurance / Quality Control on subgrade, subbase and thin flexible pavement constructions to verify that specifications are met,
- It can also be used to identify weaknesses, leading to further tests using FWDs and other material analysis techniques,
- DAS interface is easily to any laptop/Tablet (Window based),
- The LWD electronics are dust, water and splash proof for safe outdoor use,
- The drop height is easily and quickly adjusted by a movable release handle,
- Precision load cell is used to measure magnitude of the impact, measuring the time history and peak value of the impactwith the standard 10kg / 15kg / 20kg drop weights,
- Standard loading plate of diameter 300mm (11.8in.) and 150mm (5.9in.) can quickly and easily change,
- Optionally, two more geophones can be added.

GEOTRAN LWD Extension
To measure Dynamic CBR Test using Light Weight Deflectometer (LWD)
GEOTRAN LWD Extension
To measure Dynamic CBR Test using Light Weight Deflectometer (LWD)
Using extensions to the Light Weight Deflectometer, dynamic CBR (California Bearing Ratio) is measured in-situ and also laboratory CBR in a cylinder can be simulated at the construction site. The equipment provides immediate repeatable results so that on-site decisions can be made straight away.
The California Bearing Ratio or CBR testing yields relative strength of laboratory compacted or in- situ soils and base coarse materials. The test penetrates resistance of a soil to a standard sized with LWD piston.
Dynamic CBR testing equipment includes;
- Compaction Mold – 1no
- Penetration Hammer – 1 no
- 2-Part Surcharge – 4 no
- Standard Surcharge Weight – 1 no
- Extension for LWD – 1no
